Sanda Iepure, PhD is leading the Groundwater Research Group at Imdea Water. Her research interest focusses on groundwater ecology and limnology, cave biology and Quaternary paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental reconstructions using non-marine fossil ostracods. Currently, she is working on groundwater ecohydrology in Mediterranean and Arctic environments, with emphasize on groundwater and groundwater dependent ecosystems.
Tadeusz Namiotko, PhD University of Gdansk, Poland. Tadek research activity concerns studies on: a) the morphology, diversification and phylogeny of stygobitic and stygophilic Ostracoda, b) subfossil ostracods from sediments of postglacial and ancient lakes as well as the Baltic Sea as proxies for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, c) evolutionary ecology and taxonomy of ostracods from temporary waters, and d) taxonomy and biogeography of boreal/arctic and tropical non-marine ostracods. Tadek will work over 6 months on a project aiming to monitor endocrine disruptors in surface waters of central Spain using chronic toxicity ostracod tests – a search for an innovative region-specific risk assessment (Research Talent Attraction Fellowship, 2017).
Ruben Rasines Ladero, PhD Student. Ruben holds a Bachelor degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Alcalá (2003/2008) and a Master degree in Hydrology and Water Resources Management at the University of Alcalá and Rey Juan Carlos (2010/2011). Ruben is currently developing his PhD research on the ecohydrology of the hyporheic zone of rivers from the Mediterranean region.
David Mostaza Colado, PhD Student. David graduated in Environmental Sciences (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2007/2012) and MSc in Hydrology and Water Resources Management (Universidad de Alcalá & Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2013/2013). David is currently working as a Research Assistant at IMDEA Water performing his PhD thesis within the Smart-Hydro project. He use technological advances in sensors, multispectral images and telecommunications to control the quantity and quality of groundwater in agricultural landscape, as to reduce energy costs, water losses and environmental impact.
Andrea Castaño Sanchez, Research Assistant. Andrea has a degree in Biology by Complutense Universidad of Madrid (2013) and a Master in Environmental Geology (2015) at the same university. Her MSc thesis aims to use the lichens as bioindicators for the assessment of airbone contaminated with mercury in the Almadén Mining District (Sierra Morena, Spain). Andrea is currently working within REMTAVARES project and study the efects of hospital residual wastewaters on aquatic ecosystem with focus on aquatic crustaceans.
Tiziana di Lorenzo, PhD Institute of Ecosystem Study, Florence, CNR Italy (October / November 2016). Tiziana is woking on ecology of Copepoda Cyclopoida and Harpacticoida (Crustacea); fine-scale and meso-scale ecological analyses of freshwater meiofauna patterns groundwater ecotoxicology, analysis of anthropic pressures and impact on groundwater ecosystem and bioenergetic bioassays. Within the academic collaborations among IMDEA Water and CNR-ISE Florence, Italy Tiziana spend 2 months in our institute working on groundwater ecotoxicology and risk assessment.
